Is Your Boat Ready For Summer?

Has your boat been sitting at its mooring, unused for any length of time?

A boat is not like a car.You can’t just jump in, go for a drive, come home & park it in the garage until next time.

While the boat is sitting at its mooring, it is constantly under attack from the elements. The sea air and water will attack all unprotected surfaces externally and internally.

If the boat is not going to be used for a while, it is still a good idea to run the engines at regular intervals to keep the internal components of the engines lubricated to create a barrier against corrosion.

Before the first trip of the summer, it is a good idea to get the boat checked out, for peace of mind as well as safety concerns.

Hoses and clamps are subject to changes with temperature and need to be checked to make sure no hoses have cracked, and that the clamps are tight. Is the coolant in the water tank fresh, and the water uncontaminated? Are the oil levels good and the oil clean? Has the fuel in the tanks become stagnant or subject to microbial contamination?

With a small amount of time and effort, you can ensure that a day out on the water will be hassle free.

Here’s to a great spring and summer!
